Use cases for XVSM Access Control

Context

space based computing, XVSM (extensible virtual shared memory), access control models

Task Description

For the Java implementation of XVSM, MozartSpaces, an access control model has been developed that allows role-based access control via expressive policies. The policies themselves use the XVSM selection mechanism to specify which kind of entries a user with a specific role may access. Policies are stored within special containers that allow access for administrators to manage permissions. The goal of this work is to find a suitable use case for a collaborative application that demands fine-grained permissions for different kind of users and to implement a solution using XVSM and its access control model. Based on this use case, the expressiveness, scalability and usability of the XVSM access control model should be evaluated.
